An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the new planes have a composite skin. The 777-300ERs are aluminum. NBC 5 regrets the error.
American Airlines welcomed the newest aircraft in its fleet with the delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER.
The state-of-the-art jet arrived at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Tuesday at dusk. American has ordered nine more of the aircraft.
Instead of American Airlines' iconic silver fuselage, the 777-300ER was painted pale gray, except for the tail, which was pure white. It has no lettering yet.
American, which hasn't changed its stripes in more than 40 years, is getting an all-new look. The new livery is necessary as space-age composite materials replace shiny aluminum on aircraft such as the Boeing Dreamliners and new Airbus planes American has on order.
AA still isn't saying what the new look will be. The new livery will be unveiled in the near future.
The plane is specially designed to fly long international routes. It has seats that lie fully flat in first and business classes. And all passengers will be able to enjoy Wi-Fi and a souped-up entertainment system.
Fort Worth-based American will use the 777-300ER to fly between DFW and Sao Paulo, Brazil, starting at the end of January.
