A routine traffic stop in Mesquite turned into a high-speed chase overnight and ended with the driver in the hospital.
Police tried to pull over the 28-year-old Garland man, whose name has not yet been releaesd, in Mesquite at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. Instead of stopping, the man took off.
Investigators said a friend of the man's estranged wife called police to report the man acting suspiciously in his white Honda in the area of Grubb and Beltline.
Officers spotted the car, attempted a traffic stop, but the man sped away. Police said the man had been in a fight with his estranged wife earlier in the week and apparently thought he had a warrant for his arrest. Investigators said he wasn't in trouble until the high-speed chase.
During the pursuit down LBJ Freeway, the man clipped a woman's car, lost control of his Honda and rolled it.
Police said he has a broken arm and is undergoing tests at the hospital. Then, he'll be charged with evading arrest.
The woman in the other car is shaken up by the crash but did not get hurt.
