Jury selection begins Monday in the capital murder trial of Jose Sifuentes, who is charged with killing 10-year-old Jasmen Gonazalez in 2011.
Gonzalez was reported missing in Oct. 2011 when her parents noticed she was no longer asleep in a bedroom in her aunt and uncle's apartment in Carrollton.
Police officers found her partially naked body lying facedown in the backyard of a home only a couple of blocks away from her uncle's apartment.
The Dallas County medical examiner's office said she died of a stab wound to the chest.
An affidavit obtained by NBC 5 confirmed there were signs that Gonazalez had been sexually assaulted.
Sifuentes, the common-law husband of the Gonzalez's cousin, was a person of interest in the case before his arrest.
Gonzalez and her parents were visiting friends and family in Carrollton when she disappeared, police said.
