A 57-year-old man is dead after a violent crash in Hurst Monday morning.
The crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. along Mid Cities Boulevard near Hurstview Drive. The westbound lanes of Mid Cities Boulevard remain closed Monday morning as crews clean up the crash scene and police investigate the wreck.
Hurst firefighters said the car was headed westbound, at possibly 60-70 mph, when the driver lost control and hit a light pole.
The pole split the vehicle almost four-fifths of the way through, according to firefighters. The man's body was also wrapped around the pole, leading to a difficult rescue.
From the street, all that was left of the car was the extreme rear portion, a tire and part of the trunk.
The man was trapped inside the car for about 90 minutes while crews tried to free him. He was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth a short time after being rescued. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The man's name has not yet been released.
Some minor power outages were reported nearby as crews cut power to the light pole.
